We offer private one-on-one lessons for mounting your own lifesize (full body) raccoon, fox, or coyote. Students can choose their own time and date for the lesson (please email us after signing up to coordinate). Beginners are welcome to sign up, no previous experience is required (though it may certainly help!). The lesson includes all materials used to create your own piece, including a professionally tanned raccoon, fox, or coyote skin, professional mannequin or form, glass eyes, ear liners, etc. Each student will leave the class with their own finished piece. These classes are generally 4-6 hours long with a short 10-30 minute break if wanted. There is no photography, video, or audio recording allowed during class, but taking photos of your finished work and the taxidermy studio is permitted when the class is over. There is a $50 rescheduling fee if you need to reschedule 48 hours or more before the class start time. See the “Reschedule a Class” option on our Class Sign Up page for more info. All materials, including a coyote skin that has been professionally tanned, a coyote shoulder mount mannequin form, glass eyes, ear liners, etc., will be provided for each student to create their own taxidermy mount from start to finish. Each student will leave class with their own completed piece, ready to hang on the wall. The class is approximately 4 hours long. Those who are 15 minutes or later to the class will not be able to join the class. There are no refunds for classes and no rescheduling for students who cancel, miss, or are too late to their class. In this beginner's taxidermy class, students will learn to make their own taxidermy rabbit shoulder mount. Class cost includes an ethically sourced rabbit skin, a professional rabbit mannequin form, glass eyes, a wood plaque, etc. Each student will leave the class with their own handmade piece, ready to hang on the wall. The instructor will provide small, real antler tines for those interested in turning their rabbit into a jackalope for an additional $50. Please use the drop-down menu to choose your class date. We invite you to join us for a bird taxidermy class. All materials, including a skinned European Starling, a mannequin form, glass bird eyes, wood perch, etc., will be provided for each student to mount their own taxidermy starling learning the step by step process hands-on. Each student will leave class with their own completed taxidermy starling attached to black wood perch (or driftwood, if preferred). This is an introductory closed-wing bird class great for beginners and all levels of experience. Students will learn how to create their own mannequin and neck armature, attached wired legs, prepare the skull, eye placement, sewing, positioning, preening, and mounting to a perch.

In this class, students will learn to pin and mount their own Death’s Head Moth. These moths are easily distinguishable by the human skull-shaped pattern of markings on the thorax. Class cost includes the moth, entomology spreading board, entomology pins, pinning tape, and a riker mount frame, ready to hang on the wall. In this class, students will learn to pin and mount a variety of butterflies. All specimens and materials are included in the class cost. Five butterflies, an entomology spreading board, entomology pins, pinning tape, and a shadowbox frame are included for each student to work on and take home with them. Butterflies species will vary due to availability. Please use the drop-down menu to choose your class date. Class size is limited to 4 students per class for each student to receive maximum step-by-step attention from the instructor to get the best end result. There is no photography, video, or audio recording allowed during class, but taking photos of your finished work and the taxidermy studio is permitted when the class is over. The class is approximately 1.5 hours long. Those who are 15 minutes or later to the class will not be able to join the class. There are no refunds for classes and no rescheduling for students who cancel, miss, or are too late to their class. There is a $50 rescheduling fee if you need to reschedule 48 hours or more before the class start time. See the “Reschedule a Class” option on our Class Sign Up page for more info. There are no exceptions to these policies. All classes are BYOB if you like. Students age 13 and up are welcome to join, however those under age 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian when arriving at the class to sign a waiver. Gift certificates: Please use the Gift Certificate option at the bottom of the Classes page to purchase a gift card for a specific class or amount. You will receive a purchase email with receipt and then an automated digital gift certificate email with a redemption code which can be printed or forwarded to the recipient. The recipient can then look at the class calendar and use the code to checkout and reserve their seat for the class date they wish to attend. The value of the gift certificate can alternately be put towards any other type of class, class upgrade, or merchandise in our online shop, and expires one year from purchase date.
Private classes cost $100 more than purchasing a seat in a group class when they are offered on the site. Additional students can join a friend’s private class for the price of a group class. Please email us the friend’s name and private class date if you have signed up as an additional student. We are generally available for private lessons most anytime in Sussex, NJ, and on weekends: Sundays in Greenpoint Brooklyn, NY and Saturdays or Sundays in downtown Jersey City, NJ. Join us for a class in squirrel taxidermy! Students will to learn hands-on the skinning and mounting processes of taxidermy. Each class member will leave with their own finished taxidermy squirrel. Class cost includes the lesson, specimen, and all supplies. No refunds can be given for missed or canceled classes.

We invite you to join taxidermist Amber Maykut for a beginners class in squirrel taxidermy. All materials, including an ethically sourced, already skinned and tanned squirrel, will be provided for each student to learn the taxidermy mounting process. Each class member will leave class with their own taxidermy squirrel half mount on a wood plaque, ready to hang on the wall. Students are invited to bring any miniature items with which they might like to dress or decorate their squirrel; some props and miniature clothing may also be provided by the teacher for those interested. If you’d like to upgrade a group class seat into a private lesson, please choose the $100 option and email us to set up your preferred date/time. Private lessons are generally held at 12pm on Sundays, but can be arranged for most any day/time to your liking via email. We will then manually redeem the code on our end.
