Mouse/Small Rat Taxidermy Class

  • Brooklyn Taxidermy 681 Morgan Avenue Brooklyn, NY, 11222 United States (map)

In this beginner's class in taxidermy, students will learn the taxidermy processes of skinning and mounting a large mouse or small rat (specimen, size, and color depending on availability). All specimens are ethically sourced and each participant will receive a mouse to work on, complete, and take home with them at the end of the lesson. Class includes the lesson, specimen, and all supplies, including a complete hand-cast 4.5 inch tall polyurethane foam mannequin made by the instructor prior to class. Students will be able to pose the arms and legs of their mouse to their liking, and modify its pose. A select amount of props will also be provided free of charge by the instructor for those interested in anthropomorphizing their taxidermy. Students are encouraged to bring miniature props to decorate their piece, though an au natural mouse/rat is certainly never frowned upon. Class cost is $150. No refunds can be given to students who miss or cancel a class. All classes are BYOB if you like. Glass domes to protect your creation will be available for purchase at the class for $20.

Please note: No prior taxidermy experience is required. No harsh or dangerous chemicals will be used. No specimens are killed for the sake of taxidermy. For questions, feel free to email us via the contact page.

Gift Certificates: When purchasing the gift certificate option, you will be emailed a PDF gift certificate with a one year expiration date from date of purchase. The recipient can then look at the class calendar and email us to confirm the class date they wish to attend. The value of the gift certificate can alternately be put towards any other type of class.
