Mouse/Small Rat Taxidermy Class

  • Brooklyn Taxidermy 681 Morgan Avenue Brooklyn, NY, 11222 United States (map)

In this beginner's class in taxidermy, students will learn the taxidermy processes of skinning and mounting their own large mouse or small rat. All specimens are ethically sourced and each participant will receive a mouse/rat to work on, complete, and take home with them at the end of the lesson. Class includes the lesson, specimen, and all supplies, including a professional taxidermy mouse or rat mannequin form (approx 4.5 inches tall), glass eyes, wood base, etc. A select amount of props will be provided free of charge by the instructor for those interested in anthropomorphizing (giving human characteristics/activities) to their taxidermy, and students are encouraged to bring their own props, though an au natural mouse/rat is never frowned upon. Please use the drop-down menu to choose your class date. There are no refunds and no rescheduling for students who miss or cancel their class. Class size is limited to 4 students per class for each student to receive maximum step-by-step attention from the instructor to obtain the best end results. All classes are BYOB if you like. Glass domes to protect your creation will be available for purchase at the class. There is no video or audio recording allowed during class, but taking photos of your work and the taxidermy studio is permitted. Students age 13 and up are welcome to join, however those under age 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian when arriving at the class. Parents, family members, etc who are not paid students are unable to remain in the studio during the class. For more info please visit our FAQ page.

Please note: This is a great beginner’s class, especially for those wanting to try their hand at anthropomorphic taxidermy. For a more traditional beginner’s taxidermy class, we recommend the chipmunk and squirrel classes. No prior taxidermy experience is required. No harsh or dangerous chemicals will be used. No specimens are killed for the sake of taxidermy. For questions, feel free to email us via the contact page.
