In this class, students will learn to pin and mount a variety of butterflies. All specimens and materials are included in the class cost. Five butterflies, an entomology spreading board, entomology pins, pinning tape, and a shadowbox frame are included for each student to work on and take home with them. Butterflies species will vary due to availability. The class cost is $100 per student. All classes are BYOB if you like. No refunds can be given if you miss or cancel a class.
Please note: All butterfly classes are scheduled to occur on the same date as a 2pm mouse or squirrel taxidermy class, with a half hour in-between classes, for those interested in taking both. The butterflies are pinned into place during the class. They then take 1 week to dry into place on their pinning boards. Students may choose to leave their pinned butterflies to dry in the studio and return at the same time the following weekend to mount into frame (approx 15 minutes). Otherwise, students will take home their butterflies along with simple printed directions for mounting the dried butterflies on their own.
No prior experience is required. No harsh or dangerous chemicals will be used. No specimens are killed for the sake of taxidermy or entomology. Feel free to email us via the contact page with any questions.
Gift certificates: When purchasing the gift certificate option, you will be emailed a PDF gift certificate with a one year expiration date from date of purchase. The recipient can then look at the class calendar and email us to confirm the class they wish to attend. The value of the gift certificate can alternately be put towards any other type of class.
